I agree Palin and the Tea Party are not responsible for this. Even if they did inadvertently give him the idea, who can predict something like this? Crazy people are crazy.

The fact that Anthony Miller and several other Republicans resigned from office, citing death threats from the Tea Party, is a lot more damning to my eyes. The assassination attempt against Giffords gives the crazy fringe a lot more power. Controlling the political climate with terroristic threats is some serious third world shit, and it does not bode well for the rest of us, especially the Republican Party.

All that being said, in your first link, Loughner is left-wing? Uh, what?

Typically, those who list "Mein Kampf" and "The Communist Manifesto" as favourites aren't generally on the right side of the political spectrum.

I'm guessing that's where the author pulled that from.

"Mein Kampf" is absolutely right-wing. Loughner also listed an Ayn Rand book, which is right-wing as well. And he appears to have lifted a lot of views from the far right-wing David Wynn Miller. I'm pretty sure the books, at least, are red herrings.

Judging from Loughner's writings, there is no indication that he's a Nazi or a Communist. One might make the case that he's a Libertarian since he espouses strong anti-goverment views, especially regarding currency, and he is quite obsessed with Constitutionality. But his views are far too incoherent to mesh with any Libertarian platform I've encountered, at least. He's just a mentally deranged, paranoid individual with a penchant for conspiracy theory.
