Wrote this on LJ back in June of 2007. That was almost 4 years ago. Care to guess how much I've been paid back by those "friends" I mentioned then? $0.00 How can you go for 5+ years knowing you owe someone, and not made an attempt to pay them what you owe?

Some of those "very same" friends are the reason i am now very careful giving out a job reference. Nothing like putting your name out. Them getting hired then them screwing up. Giving me a bad rap.

Don't let it ruin you totally though. I recently had a very sudden and unexpected bill to the tune of $500. Thanks to Kim Leo & Ellie it was taken care of. With in a month i had $440 paid back and the rest worked off deicing Ellie's driveway.

not everyone is like your friends.. *one bad apple* and all that...However, I just forgive the debt. I have friends I know I'll never see a dime from but it doesn't matter. I still love them.

+1. I figured this out a LONG time ago. I do NOT "loan" money to friends if I can't afford to lose it. When I hand it over, as far as I'm concerned, I've already written it off. Every now and then I get some back and am pleasantly surprised, but when I don't I don't lose friends or sleep over it.

If you can't afford to lose it, don't loan it.

ouch. I just don't get how people can go so long...ANY period of time really...without knowing they have a debt and it bothering them....It bugs me when I owe someone $20, much less something in the hundreds.
