The ferret was back to its usual mischief, bouncing around the room, chewing on things it shouldn't be chewing on, knocking things off of tables, generally getting underfoot.
Before it had curled up tight to Edric's side on the couch, it had even attempted bursts of fluttering, testing out these new strange limbs and usually just tripping over himself. It had been a valiant effort, though. Now he had exhausted himself and was happy to just leech Edric's warmth, letting the man scratch his side absently and mumble the strange things one only ever feels the need to mumble to little, furry animals to him.
But Edric wasn't really all that occupied with the animal; the tension that had gripped him after the discovery of his mother's body had multiplied, and his whole body ached with the sheer strain of it. Even the gentle rocking and familiar smells of the boat did nothing to relieve it. It was here that he knew he had to come after fleeing from the Aurors at the hospital; they would be checking the house for certain, and this was a sanctuary they didn't know he had. There wasn't much in the world Edric was more grateful for.
Since he had been chased from St. Mungo's, though, he could only wait for news of his son. Who couldn't even open his eyes when last Edric saw him, pale and surely on the edge of death. Perched stiffly on the couch, mumbling to the ferret, only moving occasionally to find himself a drink or another cigarette. It was on one of these occasions that he felt the boat rock, announcing a boarding, and he froze in the center of the room, watching the cabin door.
