MEET AND GREET ascensional October 5 2011, 11:57:02 UTC
You've been officially greeted by the party's hostess and forced to wear a pair of slippers. At least they're comfortable! Now what?

You can choose to go back to talking with Tomoe, or any other party guest, as well as enjoy a small variety of snacks to sate any nagging hunger you might have. You can take a couple onigiri, or even a skewer of yakitori. Have you ever had daifuku? The texture can take getting used to, but they're delicious!

If you find yourself thirsty, then there is a small station at the end of the banquet table where Tomoe (when not greeting guests) will be pouring special Gyokuro green tea for anyone who asks. If you find yourself wanting something cooler, there is also water and mint lemonade available.

Talk about what you got the birthday girl, the insane weather, or whatever you want! Just keep your voices down, as this is not a loud event.

Today was an important day. One that a certain elf had made sure to leave her schedule free for, making sure she had everything she'd need. He rgift was wrapped and she slipped on her special suit Kanaya made her a while back; a flowing green skirt with matching suit top, leaving the gloves, boots, cape, and cap behind today.

She showed up at the door, clutching something long in her hand wrapped in white paper with a red bow. Alleyne greeted Tomoe and looked around the room, vaguely reminded of a country back home called Hinomoto. From what she read in the library about Earth, the elf knew it and someplace called Japan were almost identical.

Alleyne was a bit curious about the culture and customs, jumping right in and putting on her slippers and going to get a snack, setting her gift against the wall near her. There's a cup of tea in her right hand, onigiri in her left, completing the look with a yakitori skewer clenched in her teeth. She's off to the side, seeing who else comes in and nodding to them as they arrive.

[Homura's never really been to a lot of birthday parties, but at least she knows to dress nicely. As is, she's dressed in a nice dark purple jacket over a lighter purple top, matched with a dark grey skirt. She has no weapons on her, just her Soul Gem ring, so it's just the shoes she's exchanging for slippers, as she looks around, a small white bag in hand.]

RETRIEVAL || Closed to Nanako & Tomoe ascensional October 5 2011, 11:57:37 UTC
While the guests continue to mingle and Kenshin helps make sure everyone is behaving, Tomoe will take her cue and bow out of the ballroom to go retrieve the birthday girl. Nobody else is invited to come along, as this portion is a somewhat private event.

Having made sure in advance that Nanako is in her room at this time, Tomoe will knock on the door, two plainly gift-wrapped boxes held in both arms.

[and Nanako was indeed waiting in her room. She really wanted to use her time to cintue looking around the rearranged castle, but Ms. Tomoe sounded like it was important, so she's patiently waiting like a good girl should :) And then when the knock sounds Nanako hurries over to open the door... and looks curiously at the boxes]

What are those?

With a barely-there smile, Tomoe lowers the boxes for her to take.

"These are your birthday gifts from me. I am sorry that they are late, but I hope you like them. May I come in?"

CHARADES ascensional October 5 2011, 11:59:09 UTC
Although not a traditional Japanese game, it was requested by the birthday girl herself! Away from the dining area, an area has been set up with cushions to sit on next to a table.

The table has a sign labeled 'CHARADES' and the game's instructions listed beneath. In front of it is a basket with folded pieces of paper. Please pick one, and whichever number you pick, then that is your team! There will be two teams, and size depends on how many want to play.

Before the game starts, everybody will receive a strip of paper that they can write a subject on (phrase, movie, play, song, animal, etc.), and then put in that team's bag. Each team writes the subject choices for the opposite team to act out, so the bags will be swapped and then held by a nearby helpful ghost.

Each team will get their turn having a player pick the subject out of their bag, and the number of rounds depends on the number of players. After everybody has gotten a turn, the team with the most points wins! What do they win? You will find out!

[ ooc; This is more for OOC organizational purposes than anything. Please leave a comment here with your character's subject suggestion if you want to join this game. I will wait half an hour to an hour after the first comment (depending on how many people volunteer) before assigning teams and commencing the first game.

If you comment late (and the game hasn't yet finished), don't fret! We can simply add your character in to an existing team and have them take their turn later. ]

ROUND 1 — TEAM A ascensional October 5 2011, 13:46:41 UTC
It is (character name)'s turn to get up and pick a subject out of their bag and act it out without saying a word to their team.

Your subject is ____. Don't forget to first indicate how many words it is with your fingers, and let your team know when they're getting closer by nodding or shaking your head. You have sixty seconds. Go!

DINNER AND CAKE ascensional October 5 2011, 12:11:19 UTC
Now that the solemn ceremony has done, it's time to take a seat and enjoy dinner! The tables are low to the ground, with cushioning supplied on top of a large area rug so that nobody feels uncomfortable. The candles centered among the table decorations are now lit, making it easier to see what's going on.

For those unaccustomed to shabu shabu, Tomoe will be happy to explain proper etiquette, and even how to use your hashi. All in all, it is a very friendly type of meal that encourages conversation.

There is also a humble cake to be enjoyed, but Nanako gets the first slice, of course!

Rather than joining in the eating, Tomoe will be hovering here and there to refill tea as needed, and sitting near Nanako when not called upon. Don't worry, she is very much enjoying herself, and hoping everyone else is, too.

PRESENTS ascensional October 5 2011, 12:14:42 UTC
Now that everybody has a full belly, it's time for Nanako to open up her presents and read her cards. If you didn't bring a present, please don't concern yourself! Surely the birthday girl is thrilled that she got to enjoy a good time with her friends.

After the presents are opened, you can linger and continue to play games or talk, or simply take your leave. It's been a pretty busy day!

He's been lingering around during the whole event, not really participating - just kind of watching. Because this whole thing is a little weird and awkward for him; he's never been to a party like this. Especially since there's no ... booze. And especially because he's still busy dealing with the blow of finding out what he does in the future. Needless to say, he's not feeling ... extremely social.

But when he sees it's time to give her her presents, he'll make his way over to give her a small velvet bag, shut with a drawstring, for her to open. After their conversation about her father, he had a pretty excellent (or so he thinks, anyways) idea about something she might like.

At this point in the night, Nanako is absolutely glowing. She's been having a whole evening of having fun with her dearest friends, eating food, and playing games. She cannot imagine how this evening could be any better. But then she sees Anders coming up... with a velvet bag?

Curious, she waves at him, and hurries over to say hello. "Hi Anders!" She almost doesn't want to ask what it is, but her curiosity overwhelms her. "What's that?"

He can't help but smile, just a little bit, at her expression. Her smile is a little infectious - and hopefully, he'll be able to make her night a little better. He'll drop the bag into her hand, though, crouching down a little to be more on eye level.

"It's a present for you - happy birthday, by the way," he says, letting an arm drape across his knee. He'll wait until she opens it to explain its purpose, but she'll find a necklace inside the bag - a simple black cord with a small rock resembling a Rune of Protection strung onto it.
