So I no longer know who I am. Its official. My identity has been stolen. I have never felt so freakin violated in my life. So far they have tried to write 7 checks and get one credit card. I don't even know what to do at this point.

I don't know about the credit cards, but I would close and transfer yoru chekcing account imediatly! The bank may be able to point you in the right direction of people to contact regarding your credit as well.

An issue with the credit cards, isn't so much having the current accounts canceled, because thats something almost everyone will do immediatly once a wallet or purse is stolen. If the individuals have her social security number, they can open any line of credit they want in her name, and thats much harder to get under control, because most credit cards and stores, will gladly give any Tom, Dick, and Harry a line of credit with out actually verifying that the person applying is really the person who owns that social security number.

I wonder if there is any way to stop it? Can I get a new SS number? I know I can get a new DL number if I can prove fraud...but the ss number is unknown to me =(

Oh crap they did it!! =( Thank god you did the fraud alert to make it harder for them to become you. Not that this really helps because I can't even imagine how violated you're feeling but at least you've learned never to carry your ss #'s in your wallet again.

Ya but from what I understand the fraud alert is suppose to call me anytime someone tries to get a credit card using my (or the kids) social security number. Which it didn't. The only way I know they tried is I have the denial letter. (Thank god I fucked up with target 10 years ago!)
