Very nice looking. I made Andy a strawberry birthday cake over the weekend that looked very similar, except mine had a whipped cream frosting which I didn't whip enough, so it started to slide down the sides. Kind of looked like the cake was there when the Nazi's opened the Ark in the first Indiana Jones. Tasted good though.
Andy is getting a ton of strawberries in the garden, and they look mostly red, but they don't taste good yet. They're not sweet yet.
Using powdered sugar instead of regular sugar in the whipped cream helps stabilize it because powdered sugar has corn starch in it.
I find the strawberries from the garden are not quite as sweet as really good ones from the grocery store. Also, the smaller ones tend to be quite tart. I usually just sugar them a bit to make up for it.
That cake is the most awesome cake in the history of baking. I suck at baking and am always impressed with baked goods that look like they are supposed to. Cooking is easy because you don't have to get things exact - in fact, not getting them exact often results in better food. Baking requires a precision I am simply not cut out for.
People always say that about baking and I've never really had that experience. Maybe it's because I don't make really complicated things, but I usually half-ass the recipe and it turns out ok. And whipped cream covers a LOT of imperfections...
Confession--while I can and do make pretty good cakes from scratch--this one did come from a box because I had it and was feeling lazy. But it was organic and required milk, melted butter, and eggs so it was almost like making it from scratch! And, true to form, I didn't have quite enough butter so I had to substitute a little oil and it still worked out ok.

There are not enough desserts with lemon curd in! *sends idea to Ben*

this was a long and useless comment.
