Did they give you the day off work, or did you staying home to watch the inauguration, or were you just avoiding the chaos that the traffic would be? Some of the folks at work were watching the inauguration on TV in the lunchroom (don't know where they found the TV, it is not usually there) and we were commenting on the crowds - I guess for some folks it is really important to say that you were there, even if the reality is that you stood outside & froze so far away that you couldn't see or hear anything anyway.
The federal government in DC closes for every Inauguration. So many of the buildings are within the security perimeter, and it's just too much of a hassle to get in and out of the city that it's not really practical for us to try and come in. Plus it leaves the roads and trains clearer for the important people. :)
