Good luck with exams! Relax, how well you integrate faith and learning does not reflect on your standing with God, no matter what they tell you at chapel (well, they might tell you that, I almost never went). ;P

Glad you got ride-age. One semester I ended up taking amtrak from Chi-town to NYC, and ended up sitting next to a weird old guy with a hook for a hand. I'm not kidding. However, he turned out to be really nice, so that was okay.

Ehhhh, we all lack focus. It sounds like your pointing yourself in the right direction, so I won't say anything else or get all "precious moments" on you. But I'll pray for ya.

i've had some "fun" amtrak times. there was at least one offer from a 30+ year old guy to buy me alcohol, until he found out i was 18... at least he decided to back off then. that could have been even more awkward. >_>

I dont know waht to tell you about your friend, but I do know that we all have our paths. He will do his thing, adn you will do yours. that is the state of the world.
