an ordinary adventure: the flood, pt. 1

so.

i am having a terrible day monday. i have a paper to write that refuses to be written, i'm stressed out, and i'm still sick (currently, i still am; i have been for about a month now). i try to go out and buy groceries, only to have ludicrous car trouble on the way there and back. frustration abounds. monday night, a little after 9, all of the power goes out. this has two effects, one being that i have to laugh because things are just getting ridiculous. the second being that i do not want to be in my apartment. everything is unnatural silence, stillness, and darkness. i know this is a strange thing to say, but i can barely even hear the rain pouring down outside. i have never been in nature in a context where it is as quiet or as dark or as still as it was in my apartment. i look outside; it's fairly dark except for when the lightning strikes, but still brighter than inside. the rain is coming down harder and harder, and my roommate is gone because she has a night class. the guys who live next door, jeremy and eric, are outside watching the rain. turns out christine, jeremy's fiancee, is there as well. we conclude that shelby, my roommate, ought not have to walk back in this rain.

so. a rescue is planned.

and i, being brilliant, offer up my car for this venture. it starts up perfectly, in spite of it's earlier behaviour. that shoud have been my first clue.

to be continued...
