i almost lost everything on my computer recently. 3+ years of writing, drawing, not to mention all the odd little files and pictures i find and squirrel away. but my dear mitsumi is fixed, now, and assuming i don't grow lax again i will back up my files in more places than just my external harddrive (which was a hard backup to do, until we stopped ( Read more... )

Ow! What a not-so-nice few days!

I lost three books and probably a gigs worth of art when our computer crashed in August. That just reminds me of the old gamer's motto -- "Jesus saves, and so should you." Yeah ...

At least you had Ender's Game to keep you company.

Got it. Thanks. Said cookies will be accompanied by an ADD toy that will bring great delight to you, and great consternation to any human or pet in the room with you.

Three things:

1. Since I'm assuming that "you-know-who-you-are" refers to your one Jewish friend, who I think is like, the only Jew you know, who would be me, you're pretty close. Most people do it sundown Friday until Sundown Saturday. But if you want to be REALLY technical and anal about it, the Sabbath doesn't actually begin or end until the sun has set, and the first three stars are visible in the sky.

2. "Ender's Game", and, quite frankly, Orson Scott Card... Little bit of awesome there. If you haven't read it, I recommend "The Worthing Saga", or "The Tales of Alvin Maker". Very good.

3. Christmas/Hannukah/Festivus/Whatever-type present that I told you about: Need to know when you'll be around so I can 1, see you, and 2, give you the thing. It's pretty good, in my opinion.

4. ?????????

5. PROFIT

2--yeah. i want to start with the rest of his ender books, but i think i'll be devouring as much of his as i can get my hands on.

3--hoowah! not until after the 20th, probably.

4--yes.

5--WOOHOO!

I can loan you a lot of his books. I'm a bit of an Orson Scott Card geek. Out of the Ender books, though... I would recommend that you skip "Speaker for the Dead", "Xenocide", and "Children of the Mind". Really not worth it. Go straight to "Ender's Shadow" and the following books in the series. ("Shadow of the Hegemon", "Shadow Puppets", and "Shadow of the Giant".) They're about Bean, so they're a little awesome.
