Looking for something or just looking?

Just looking. I'm... I'm exploring, a little.
[She pauses, swallows a bit for courage, and adds,] Do you live here, too?
Reply
[Conan's definitely not nervous, taking Lirael's question as an invitation to join her.]
Apparently! Though I'm still getting used to this place ...

The bedrooms upstairs... the front room with all those... things in it.
[Electronics? What are those? Not something she has the least bit of familiarity with, that's for sure. As she pushes open a door and peers into the room with the long table, she adds,]
... and this looks like a dining room.
Reply
[Conan peers past Lirael into the room.] It does too! I wonder if that means we're supposed to eat together?

[The words come out before Lirael can really stop them, and she looks mortified.]
Not that... you aren't pleasant, but... but I've heard things. About everyone else....
[And she didn't like people much, in general. The thought of eating at a long table with a bunch of people she didn't know and who weren't even likely to be kind... well. It would probably be just as bad as sitting at the children's table, the one adult still in blue-- which would be why she never did that anymore.]

You won't feel lonely?
Reply
[Though she still doesn't know quite how,/u> she's different, aside from not being difficult-- and even there, she's pretty sure she's difficult, just in different ways.]
And I don't really mind being alone. It's what I'm used to.
[After a fashion, anyway.]

Who told you that? It wasn't the maid, I bet!
Reply
[Lirael starts across the dining room, which is beautiful, if as gray and drab-looking in color as everywhere else, towards the swinging door in the back that she's guessing leads to the kitchen.]
Reply
Ne, what was he like? Was he scary?
[Conan's following of course, thoughtfully counting the number of seats as they pass them.]
-nineteen, twenty ... I guess there's going to be a lot of us here!
Reply
[Though the thought of being in this room with twenty people is more than enough to make her wish for the lower refectory at the Glacier. At least there she could have chosen an empty table to hide at! She eyes the table unhappily.]
Kaz-- Kaz didn't seem frightening... not really. A little overwhelming, maybe.
Reply
[Which makes her obvious unease at sharing a room with numerous others curious -- just what did Kaz say?]
I guess if he's not bad, then the other's can't be too bad, right? Do you think this is the kitchen?
Reply
Apparently it is... the kitchens are home are bigger, surely, there's just more people there. But they are not so... so... fancy! Everything gleams!
Reply
It looks brand new -- I wonder if it's even been used!
Reply
[Lirael can hardly believe that. Why would anyone put all new things into a beautiful kitchen like this just for them? Were they truly that certain that they would be a help? She opens a couple cupboards, standing on her toes to see into the upper ones.]
