Nolanverse Batman fic: Goodbye

*cough* Nothing to see here.

Well, not nothing, it's a character study for in_the_blue's "Someone Else" writing challenge, the study of one character from another's point of view that I've been mulling over for weeks. It's also a character point-of-view of one of my favourite scenes from The Dark Knight. I'm so tempted to just not post this because, heh, it' ( Read more... )

See, I can imagine this very neatly fitting into a (well-written) novelisation of the film.

Bruce and Rachel have just kept missing each other over the years. Were circumstances different, I think they'd have been wonderful together, but circumstances are what they are, and it's never going to work, and I think that in The Dark Knight, Rachel is painfully aware of both those things. So she does have a lot of regret, and I'm so glad that came through.

Also, I ♥ you, sweetie.

Aww, thank you! I'm glad you liked it even without knowing the characters that well.

(Now you see why Bruce obsesses me. He has THE ANGST.)

Wow, this is really well-thought out and written. It's nice to see Bruce from Rachel's POV, rather than the other way around, which is what we see mostly in the movie. I love both the maturity in Rachel and the realisation that Bruce has been frozen in time. I mean, a guy who dresses up as a giant bat has got serious problems (or is it issues? bah, that's what I get for trying to quote!)

It's issues. :p

Thank you so much. I'm so glad, because that's what I was going for. As I see it, the big problem with Bruce and Rachel is that Bruce is stuck in the past and Rachel looks towards the future. Rachel dealt with the Waynes' deaths by becoming a lawyer and taking on the justice system. Bruce has never really dealt with it properly. And Rachel matured quite a bit between the two movies and has, I think, realised that.
