If they'd been in a movie they'd have ended up having mad hot passionate sex right there on the break room floor, in a TV series they'd have skipped out on the rest of the day and ended up spending the day likewise occupied in bed, and in a book they'd have spent the day talking and getting to know each others minds intimately before finally that night getting down to knowing each others body just as well.
As it was, they weren't in any of those and they hadn't even pulled apart when both their cell phones began dinging letting them know they were needed for something or another in the conference room. Aaron felt himself give a small regretful groan and pulled away from Spencer who was pouting himself. “I guess we're going to have to pause this.”
Spencer frowned and tightened his grasp on Aaron's arms, “But just a pause, right?”
Aaron smiled and pulled the slighter man back into a tight embrace, “Yeah, just a pause. Promise.”
And they didn't get a chance to talk again for almost ten long hours which Aaron hated. Because if he'd thought attempting to ignore his feelings for Spencer was difficult, he quickly discovered that keeping his hands off Spencer now that he knew it was at least a mutual attraction was just as bad. If not worse.
He had to force himself to not touch Spencer, and not necessarily just in a sexual way. Something as stupid as holding his...well his something's hand in the back of the car, claiming the seat nearest him, or even allowing himself to look at Spencer had turned into a battle with his own control. Aaron was excellent at hiding his emotions, but this thing between the two of them was too new and raw for him to fully control it.
And it wasn't until that evening when they'd finally gotten back to their Hotel and were supposed to be attempting to get a few hours of sleep that they finally had a chance to talk. Not that Aaron had any idea what he should actually say but he knew even as he knocked on Spencer's hotel room door that they did need to talk. He'd planned to be blunt, and honest; to just say what he meant and meant what he said. Aaron knew this relationship, if it could be called that, needed to be handled delicately; and being completely honest about things should help that.
But Aaron hadn't counted on Spencer opening the door in an overly large Yale Hoodie, a raggedy pair of blue plaid pajama bottoms, and those ridiculously huge glasses of his. It was a look completed by that shy smile of his, and Aaron knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that he was lost. He'd never found a man adorable, but there was no doubt that Spencer was.
That first conversation was slow, stilted, and awkward.
“Y-you want me? Seriously?”
“Yeah...”
Aaron had all but forgotten the way being around someone he wanted could steal his words, and making talking sense nearly impossible. Spencer seemed to be having just as much trouble, stuttering in a way that Aaron found completely unfair because if anything it added to the overall adorableness that was the younger man.
They didn't touch that night, even though Aaron didn't want to do anything more than to pull Spencer as close as possible and prove to him just how mutual the attraction was. But for some reason it just seemed like that was taking things a bit too far a bit too soon; so as much as he wanted to, Aaron didn't push. And found himself shortly back in his own room staring at the wall and wishing he'd taken the risk for at least a kiss.
The next day was stressful, their unsub had escalated and taken another victim; and again they were all pushed into hyper-drive in an attempt to find him. Aaron also discovered he had a growing hatred for Derek Morgan. Every time the other man leaned over Spencer's shoulder to point out something, stood a bit too close, or sent the younger man a smirk Aaron felt himself twitch.
Intellectually he knew it was ridiculous since Morgan was straight, and Aaron had long suspected he had a bit more of a thing for Garcia than he let on; he also knew that his possessive streak had always been a sore point with Haley and it was far too early for Spencer to be considered his anyway. But Aaron was still on edge by the end of the day when the team finally caught their man and had to face the fact that they weren't in time to save his 10th victim.
Aaron had forced himself to stay in his own room, to not go running to Spencer while he was this edgy and Spencer so emotional; only to find Spencer in his doorway a short while later all but begging Aaron to help him forget. Which somehow lead to Spencer clinging to him in an embrace that Aaron felt sure was too tight to be comfortable for his younger partner, but he couldn't bring himself to loosen his arms even as Spencer sighed contentedly.
It only seemed natural that Aaron press kisses against his cheek, although he wasn't sure who he was attempting to console. They'd both been hit hard by the case, knowing they'd only been 10 minutes too late to save a life was always hard to deal with.
When Spencer pulled away Aaron shook his head, but before he could say anything Spencer was back and pressing an urgent kiss against his lips. Aaron nearly groaned aloud but found himself too busy returning the kiss.
It wasn't the most practiced of kisses, but it tasted coffee and sugar and Spencer all at once for the first time more than made up for their noses and teeth bumping. If he'd had the presence of mind Aaron would have cursed the need for air as he pulled back to catch his breath and pressed their foreheads together as Spencer whimpered and attempted to press even closer if that was possible.
Aaron grinned as he began pressing kisses against Spencer's face again slowly making his was to Specer's ear. He allowed himself to worry it slightly with his teeth in a way that caused Spencer to shudder.
“One day I'll fuck you.”
Aaron's voice was lower, and a tad more rough than normal, but he hardly cared as his hands brutally pulled Spencer's hips forward as he spoke.
The whimper that was his reward, and the “Please, now!” only made his smile widen.
Aaron shook his head slightly and bit the soft skin below Spencer's ear softly in response before giving a low, “No.”
Spencer whimpered again, Aaron felt his partner's hands find their way into his hair.
“Why not?” Spencer's voice was breathy and demanding and he pulled Aaron's face from his neck to meet his gaze, “Please, I want it!”
Aaron grinned but shook his head, “No.”
He went back to gently biting at the long expressive curve of the younger man's throat even as he gave another low groan. Aaron finally gave in and moved back to Spencer's ear and whispering “The first time I take you, isn't going to be in some hotel room while we're both trying to forget a case,” Aaron felt Spencer press himself impossibly closer and his hands tightened on the bony hips, “When I take you, it'll be because you're mine.”
Aaron heard Spencer moan and, “I'm already yours Hotch.”
Aaron felt himself shudder at hearing the words, but shook his head with a smirk anyway and pressed a soft kiss against Spencer's pouting lips. “That might be true, but I'm still not taking you for the first time in a hotel room.”
Spencer sighed and pressed their foreheads together again, “Is this your way of telling me to get out?”
Aaron felt himself give a small huff of laughter, “Hardly.”
Spencer grinned, “I can stay?”
Hotch nodded, “I'll set an early alarm, the others aren't on this floor so it should be fine.”
“But no sex?” Hotch shook his head and Spencer gave an explosive sigh, “God Hotch you're such a tease!”
Hotch gave a small bark of laughter before shaking his head, “Come on, we both have an early morning tomorrow we should sleep. And stop calling me Hotch, it's Aaron when we're alone.” Spencer smiled shyly and nodded.
It should have been awkward sharing a bed with Spencer after sleeping alone for so long. And in a few ways it was awkward, but mostly it was comfortable and easy. And as Aaron allowed himself to slip into sleep he realized he was smiling.
