ACTUALLY that's your name written in katakana. katakana is used for words that are borrowed from other languages, for words that you need to sound out to pronounce, or for made up words. they are the simplest looking characters.

kanji are the chinese symbols that japanese people use in formal writing. those are the really complicated looking symbols where one symbol means one word.
