Alright so while Im looking for a job theres going to be a lot of down time and I get to do the things I didnt make time for before. Such as reading a good book all the way through.

Has anyone read a good book recently?

I tried to start hitchhikers guide but unfortunately I watched the movie first and its practically verbatim. So its hard for me to read.
Read the golden compass and the ending pissed me off. I think cause it forced you to read the next book. I was reading a series before that that did a better job of summing things up each book so you didnt really need to read more. I think the fact that I felt forced just made me want to rebel.

man, you're a lazy reader!

1) Hitchiker's movie is not verbatim (there's 5 books! how could it be? besides, you can skip the first few if you want), and the true wit of Douglas Adams can never be captured on film. Also: very light reading, which is a plus. not to mention they butchered the plot with the love story between Trillian and Arthur.

2) sequels that spend any time rehashing the story from the previous installment suck. It tells the reader that the author thinks you're too out of it to remember the last book, or that you couldn't just figure it out from a few hints here and there. Simply: we are left to believe that the author thinks the reader is dumb.

3) You felt 'forced' to read the next book? I thought you were looking for books to read? dude, that trilogy is consistently brilliant - just read the whole thing. jeez!

4) if the above statements are true, you will probably hate No Country For Old Men.

I am now going to go read the 5th Hitchhiker's book. and for reference, I saw the movie first too. still good. pbbbt.

Right now I'm reading The Host by Stephenie Mayer, author of the Twilight series. It caught me by surprise how interesting it was. At 617 pages it's probably one of the longest novels I've ever read.
