Well my dad made the choice of being a lawyer and working for his dad so he could have the $$ to raise a family and take care of my mom over being a composer. And he always kept it up as a hobby and wrote music in his spare time and sang in synagogue and when we moved to VA he worked with the choir in our synagogue and they sang a bunch of his pieces and he wrote more for them over the years... Now he's about to retire from the govt. and he's got good benefits and has made enough along with my mom's work as an office admin to pay for his two kids to go to college and enough to buy two houses, one of which has gone through huge renovations and will let him live exactly whee he's always wanted to and do all the things he's enjoyed most in life, AND his music has been performed by professionals in nationally acclaimed concerts, AND he's had the opportunity to work with lots of interesting people over the years
