Fellow Marin-ites: Who else has gone to Northgate lately and been shocked to find that everything is closed except Sears and Macys? Yet they still let you walk around the mall, even though there's NOTHING in it. And my god, it looks so.. so.. Marin now. Theres little fake windows with little fake terraces above, theres pillars and fru-fru signs ( Read more... )

My mom works for the company that owns both The Village at Corte Madera and Northgate mall, so I knew about these plans and what they were doing before they started the 'rejuvenation.' They're trying to turn Northgate into a more high-class mall to fit in better with the Marin atmostphere which includes a lot of open, natural themes. A lot of the same stores will come back, but I imagine that many of the affordable stores will not be coming back (making it just like the Village, a place that I would not be able to afford shopping in) It's really unfortunate. ): But at least the food court is staying ( ... )

I-I thought that might be the case D: Darn. Really sad since teens here literally have nowhere to go to hang out (I love how a main hang out area for high schoolers is in the Longs parking lot, because there's nowhere else to go at night!). And I used to like it there.. even though it was dark and slightly depressing inside, but the stores were still pretty fun to shop around in. Seeing how there's already The Village for high class shopping, I figured they would keep Northgate similar to how it was even after the restoration was finished.. gaah. Tell your mom to bring back Gamestop when the remodeling is done! XD ( ... )

that's so weird.
i'm so never going to Northgate even if I am going to be in marin at all this summer.
I saw an ad for the Hannah Montana movie, and i was like "...what kind of cliche movie is this?" before it even said it was Hannah Montana.

Yeah, Northgate isn't really worth going to right now. Unless you wanted to see a movie since the theatres are still there.

lol! Definitely cliche movie. There's no better conflict for a movie than: "Is Hannah Montana going to stop being Hannah Montana for some boy?" Highest stakes ever, there. XD

yo! northgate does suck now, i agree but do not fret! game stop is still open! its now set up where that random furniture store was for a while that had odd pieces from like india and whatnot. ummm...near claires which is also still there. other than that, you're right. the food court area is stupidly placed, the entire mall is now concentrated to one hallway and its just so annoying to have normal, casual places be turned into wannabe high class/status environments. exactly like the villege. oh god, that itself is a travesty now, just playing up to the whole marich thing.

Gamestop is still open?! Oh man, you've made my night. I didn't walk all the way down there because I was too annoyed, and it looked completely empty past the fancy info desk (seriously? An info desk? Northgate is fricking small, how could you get lost?). Yayness, so happy they kept Gamestop there.

Totally agree. Marin has enough wannabe high class environments, can't they just leave Northgate alone? High class wannabes can go to the Village, plenty of crap that regular people can't afford there. Especially in this economy, there's nothing like the $5 shirt store. Which will probably turn into the $500 shirt store once the remodeling is over.

Oh, Marin.
