The Year in Review Meme
A survey to reflect on the past year:
1. What did you do in 2009 that you'd never done before?
Many things. The big one being going to college.
2. Did you keep your New Year's resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
No, I almost never make resolutions, and I never keep them. I think I forget I even made them, haha.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Nope. No births this year. My cousin is having her second baby in February though!!!
4. Did anyone close to you die?
No, thank God.
5. What countries did you visit?
I have still never been out of the continental United States.
6. What would you like to have in 2010 that you lacked in 2009?
I would like to find a job that doesn't totally suck. I would also like to buy my first car, hopefully by the summer.
7. What date from 2009 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
November fifth probably will. It was not a night I was proud of, but it was a night all the same that something changed for me.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
I wanted to say making it to college, but I'm going to say graduating high school.
9. What was your biggest failure?
I would say failing to find a job while at college. I would also say that getting a C in psychology was a major shortcoming.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Nothing worse than a common cold.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
The best thing I bought was either my bedspread or my new underwear, haha. It's hard to say what I love more. What can I say, I love both bedspreads from Target and underwear from Aerie.
12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
I think some of my pledge class's smaller achievements deserved celebration, and so we did celebrate. Little triumphs. On a larger scale, I think our new President's behavior merited celebration, to mark how different two administrations can be, and to remind the rest of the world of exactly how strong the United States can be
13. Whose behavior, what situations appalled and depressed you?
I was pretty appalled by my first college Halloween party. I have to say, I was mostly unprepared for the lowering of standards in college at some parties, haha. The situation that most apalled and depressed me would have to be something that happened shortly before I left for winter break, involving a drunk friend needing to go to the hospital. That was pretty bad.
14. Where did most of your money go?
Groceries. Which I regret. Also, a good chunk of my money went towards the sorority that I pledged. That was money well-spent, however.
15. What events did you get really, really, really excited about?
My first day of college classes was a huge thing. It's funny now to think about that, because I got all dressed up nice, in a nice top and jeans, and now I trudge around campus in sweats. Also, the first day I moved into my dorm, and also my first college party was a big deal.
16. What song will always remind you of 2009?
Unfortunately, the first song that just popped into my mind was "Party in the U.S.A", but I do hear that when I'm out a lot... Everyone and their mother plays that song.
17. Compared to this time last year, you are…
happy. It sounds dumb, but college makes me happy. I wouldn't have expected to make so many new friends, or to have had so few problems, but there you are.
18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
I wish I'd done more of keeping in touch with old friends. I got so busy so quickly, but it's not a good enough excuse. Thank goodness for facebook!
19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
I wish I'd spent less time bossing my sisters around when I was home. I didn't even realize I was doing it, until my mom told me, and I realized it was the reason we weren't getting along good. I'm a bossy person, but now I look back and I'm like, crap, I was bad.
20. How did you spend Christmas?
With my family, the way I always do. I love Christmas.
21. Did you fall in love in 2009?
Nope.
22. What was your favorite TV program?
GREEK!!! I was obsessed. I can't wait for it to come back on. Cappie/Casey FOREVER!!!
23. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
I don't know if I do or not. There are always people you dislike, but hatred is a strong thing. There are only about three or four people I personally know that I hate, and they haven't changed. I'd say no to this question.
24. What was the best book you read?
I love the Shopaholic series, it's something I picked up. I think it's so funny. Actually, I think a lot of Sophie Kinsella's books are funny.
25. What was your greatest musical discovery or rediscovery?
I re-discovered my dad's albums of Sting, REM, and U2. Other than that, not a lot. I'm not a big follower of new bands, when I usually only like one or two songs from bands today. I love old music.
26. What did you want and get?
I wanted to get new make up, and I did! I also got Uggs. YES.
27. What did you want and not get?
I wanted to get a job, a boyfriend, and jeans, but instead I got a hookup and I stole a pair of my mom's jeans. Not too bad.
28. What were your favorite films of this year?
I liked Coraline and Up, but I loved the Blind Side. I have yet to see Avatar and the Hangover, but I will.
29. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I went downtown with a friend, and I turned eighteen that day.
30. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Not fighting with my mom all the time.
31. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2009?
It's a lot less sloppy. In high school, I woke up, rolled out of bed, put on clothes and a little makeup, and basically walked around looking like shit in jeans and a sweatshirt. Basically, I looked like TOTAL SHIT. I look much more put together in college, I think. Straightening my hair is the number one difference (I never used to that). Bottom line, I don't know or understand fashion, but I do look better than I did before.
32. What kept you sane?
My friends kept me sane. New and old, I needed both groups to keep me from losing it this semester.
33. What political issue stirred you the most?
Something I looked forward to most that the President had promised in his campaign was tighter standards for environmental protection, and the Clean Air Act in particular was something I wanted to see. It's a ambitious plan to work towards, but across our 50 states, I really think it's going to do a lot of good, and in California and larger states in particular. I want this to show the world that Obama means business, and I want them to look at the early actions of this administration and see how the United States really is, despite it's faults.
34. Whom did you miss?
I missed my family. I really missed my dog and my cousins. I'm home now, and I still miss my cousins. I haven't seen them nearly as much as I want to.
35. Who was the best new person you met?
This is a two-way tie. My friends Dana and Mattie are both totally awesome, I could NOT have survived pledging alone, and college would have been so much more boring without them. I'm so glad I met them both.
36. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2009.
I learned that not everything has to be about being the better person, that letting rules and worries slide on occasion can lead to great memories. I learned that if you want to enjoy new things, you can't hold judgements and opinions about everything. I love some new things now.
