how does dementia relate to a UTI and how does it relate to acute renal failure? and how does it relate to pneumonia? i think i have it pretty much figured out but jw what anyone who would know about this thinks to make sure i'm not way off track. it's for a case study. thanks! :)

Ummm... I don't have a nursing background, I'm direct entry midwifery student so we don't really do much pathology.. so this is mostly a guess..

Dementia = poor self care skills = stronger likelihood of UTI (especially in women)?
UTI untreated = bladder infection = kidney infection?

Pneumonia..
weakened immune system = greater chance of pneumonia?

people with dementia have a higher incidence of bacteriuria (sp)
Im not sure of the other one, I remember learning about it arf but Im not even sure about the connection sorry :(
