so far I have booked 6 official weddings on my own and i feel very happy. i really really really wanna open my own actual physical studio so i can do more kids and family portraiture but the overhead scares me. i think i need to work up to that point, but for the moment i am happy

You can do it! You just need a space to rent and equipment...which ok isn't easy. But there are loans...jsut a thought :)
