In a better mood now.

So, I saw the Dr. I have to take a single dose antibiotic (because Lyme disease is caused by a bacteria carried by ticks, or something like that) and watch for rash or flu-like symptoms for the next two weeks. Exciting. I may have the tick sent out to be tested for Lyme, since I just called the insurance, and they cover that test. Better safe than ( Read more... )

Bad kerning plus old eyes equals wrong reading.

I'm supposed to have some yam coming in the mail.

Yam? Oh. Yarn. Much better.

Silly Cat Face.

I suppose I could have yams by mail if I really wanted ;) I prefer to hand-pick mine in person, however.

I figured you'd have a better source than mail-order.

Lyme disease is a scary prospect, especially since I'm a mom now, and hope to have another child in the future. It can cause "irreversible neurological problems" likened to Chronic Fatigue or Multiple Sclerosis.

The treatment so far (standard treatment for tick exposure) has been nothing too involved. A single dose antibiotic. If you are bitten in the future, and are concerned, you should at least put a call in to your physician to see what they think. Normally, I avoid taking medications - especially antibiotics, due to their over (and improper) use. I believe that unnecessary medications contribute to the continuing resistance of viruses and bacteria. Anyway, with the risk of Lyme, there was no hesitation to seek immediate treatment. If caught early and treated appropriately, the risk of contracting Lyme is exponentially decreased.

I was bitten on my clavicle. I don't think I could grow detector hairs there if I tried ;) :D Nor would it be considered sexy, by any means, lol.

Even though the blasted tick will probably turn out negative, I'm with you - test the little pest. It is worth the peace of mind - especially since insurance will pay.

That being said, I hope you have no problems and feel better quick!

Congrats on the Sofie and the bed. I know how much of a big deal that is. :)

Thanks :)

The Dr said that it is a very expensive test (the DNA of the tick has to be tested for Lyme), and I probably wouldn't want to bother if it wasn't covered by insurance. But, since it is, I'm going to have it done. It will put my mind at ease, which counts ten times over now that I have other people in my life to consider.

Gosh I hope your OK! *hugs* Yeah for sure get that tick tested. Better safe than sorry I agree.
My step mom in CA got bit by a bad a few months ago and had to get the rabbies vacinations. They sent off the bat but it took forever and she had to find out if the bat had rabbies asap so she could start the shots if she needed to and she ended up just starting them, because the test took forever to get results for and in the end ended up incunclusive ugh. *hugs* Keep me updated please. :)
