The State of Me

The moving...c'est fini. The movers came and took everything away to the storage unit. (Ranger Moving, btw, is a fabulous company. I highly recommend them. The guys who did my move (Steven and TJ) were very professional and careful with my possessions and friendly with me. Great guys.) This past Saturday was final cleaning and turning over the keys and Breaking-the-Lease Fee. So, apart from any "damages" they will make me pay beyond my deposit amount, I am finished with that apartment. *sigh*

An update on the Suffragette Event: Pres. Jen wrote a very professional letter to the FB Historic Park people expressing our disappointment and explaining the costs incurred by members (in time, money, and unpaid time off) that were rendered worthless (so to speak) by the last-minute cancelation. After a little back-and-forth via email, we have decided to leave it be until the June business meeting to let emotions calm before deciding if we will continue a relationship with them. It's not the Historic Park's fault that the city wussed out over the TPers, so we don't want to burn any bridges. Yet.

We have found another venue for our "Political Activities" though. The Chestnut Square people (in McKinney) are happy to have us there for the farmer's market they'll be having that day. We'll provide historic color (Votes For Women!) while the public shops for locally produced comestibles and after we can have a picnic on the grounds. Sounds fun to me!

Makin' Stuff: Costuming Now that we will be outside again, I need to get serious about making a more weather-appropriate outfit. This week I am organizing the sewing supplies I have at the house. Teh Momster let me use an old sewing machine cabinet/desk as a sewing desk. It has drawers! OMG! Drawers are perfect for putting stuff in! Why did no one tell me this before?

I'm also thinking I want to make a 1910s dress instead of a skirt and blouse. I don't have the pattern enlarging fu that jenthompson does, so I will need to order a pattern. Probably the Laughing Moon one, as it has good reviews at The Great Pattern Review. Or maybe the one from Sense and Sensibility Patterns (the Titanic knock-off at the top). The question is, will my fabric lend itself to a dress? It's a several shades of green, pale yellow, and white woven hounds tooth where the "tooths" are about 3/8" across. It sounds obnoxious written out like that, but it's really very pretty. And I have lots of it. In my head it looks very nice made up as a kimono-style over dress, with a white under-dress and pale yellow sash and trim. It's not a heavy fabric, but it certainly couldn't be called diaphanous and it does need to be lined, so it may not be appropriate for that style. I'll have to ruminate on that. I'm more attached to the fabric than the style of dress. I have an idea for a hat, too. (Yeah, I know, you've heard that one before) Since the only even-vaguely-era-appropriate one I have is black and white, I will need to do something.

Makin' Stuff: Cross Stitch I'm still plugging away at various projects. I went in for a little retail therapy a few weeks ago at the LNS in Plano and came out with several Halloween-related patterns. I like Halloweeny patterns. I think it's because I like Halloweeny stuff. Yeah, that's probably it. I finally finished off the chunk o' white of the house in the "Amid Amish Life" pattern. I'm looking for a mat and frame for the piece I finished. The "Patchwork Dragon" is coming along nicely, as are the Sooper Sekrit Gifties. I'm also starting in on the long, hard slog that is winding all of my skeins onto bobbins. I'm bringing that to work on at lunch. I can get 3-4 done a day, usually. (I only have around 400 to go, so I should be finished sometime in the next decade. :P)

So there you have it--the state of me.
