Close
I was in an elevator with a half a dozen others. As the doors started to close, a woman sprinted towards us yelling "wait!" One time, in an elevator at some tube-station in Europe (can't remember), someone was racing towards me in the elevator (on my own) with a suitcase behind them - waving their arms frantically - like they were in a desperate rush. They were probably going to miss their flight or something if they didn't get on the tube NOW and I just stared at them and watched the doors close in their face as they were just about an inch away. My own laziness ASTOUNDS me sometimes. I shouldn't be so lazy that it becomes cruel to other people, you know? But sometimes you just can't be bothered.....

I feel a little awkward in those elevator situations. It takes me a second to read the panel and figure out which button is the open door one. So I hesitantly reach out to hold the door, always kind of worried that this will be the elevator that has no saftey features and crushes my limbs. This fear is well-founded. The automatic doors on the Tube slam shut with a lot of force. I once saw a man get his head severly crunched during rush hour. It looked really painful.

Thus, screw the late comers.
