Thanks Kevin for the lovely memories of Dad. I also remember his love of horse racing, either watching with the Baptist Minister on the television or going to the races at Uttoxeter with Stan and Ted from the greengrocers.

Yes, of course, horse racing! He bought me a flat cap and took me to Ucheter once. I remember him going to the bookies near Biddulph and Chant's in Aldergate, no doubt to collect his winnings :)

Yes. He won the money on the races to pay for our holiday to Guernsey and the first time on a plane for us.

I used to be a bookies runner. bets on slips of paper to a small window in Aldergate, 'From EDA'. If he WON BIG I was promised a bush baby but instead he bought True.

If the horse called "Magic Moments" had won its race dad was going to buy us a bush baby from a pet store in Birmingham. I recall going to Fenny Compton with Aunty Doris to buy True (or Manorial Silver Lady, her kennel club name). .Telephone number was Fenny Compton 343...I remember numbers :)
She was a funny little puppy

Kay took that picture of me this summer. I hadn't looked at the picture of dad for many years until yesterday and I'm astonished at how similar my pose is to his.
