friend or aquaintance?

some people are nice to everyone, now this confuses me. Is it actually that they are a nice, good-willed person who tries to see the good in everyone, OR are they so insecure/desperate to be liked that they are pretending to like a lot of people and actually dislike a lot of them but like the idea of being one of those people. Recently I got very wrapped up in how I perceive people because I found myself automatically disliking everyone the second i see them - without giving them a chance - this automatically leads to everyone thinking i'm a pretentious, rude bitch - I think I picked this up from my depressive ex boyfriend and the general attitude of people I've been around for the last 3 years of my life ( ... )

They probably have low self esteem and need to surround themselves with "friends" in order that they make their lives more valid and worthwhile...
I hate superficially nice people too, and yes it does indeed bed the question of just how loyal they are to you.
