Ugh, what is wrong with these people!
"Nearly half (48 percent) of the public rejects the scientific theory of evolution; one-third (34 percent) of college graduates say they accept the Biblical account of creation as fact."

Nearly half (48 percent) of the public rejects the scientific theory of evolution

That 48% is the percent of responders who agreed with the statement, "God created humans pretty much in the present form at one time within the last 10,000 years or so." Seriously, ten thousand years ago. That percentage includes 13% of the responders who identified themselves as atheist or agnostic. The situation reminds me of this comic. (My apologies if you find that offensive.) Anyway, remember the long discussion I had with the Caltech grad student who believed that evolution was a plot by secular scientists to conceal all the obvious evidence for creationism from impressionable students to keep God out of schools and establish an atheist theocracy? Once someone takes something as an article of faith, no amount of logic or evidence is going to dissuade them from that position. Americans in general like religion and don't like fancy book-learning.

Orkut has been a spam forum for me for a while now -- Starting with the random friend requests, to the random "u r indian wan 2 b frns", to random questions about oracle and mit.
