If you like sci-fi, read Isaac Asimov's short stories. If you like funny satirical stuff, read some of Kurt Vonnegut's books... And everyone likes Haruki Murakami.

re: haruki murakami

norwegian wood is one of the best books i've ever read
i read it while i was working at the bike place and i cried like a million times during it and people kept trying to rent bikes and then they'd be like "uhh we'll come back later.."

the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy series is HILARIOUS

and anything by bret easton ellis is very very good, while only mildly pretentious

1)Good In Bed is a really fun book. its like sex and the city meets my big fat greek wedding. and it doesnt have sex in it its just about a journalist who writes that coulmn.
2)also if youre a dork like me the wheel of time series is good. its by robert jordan and is comparable to lord of the rings.
3)the Secret Life of Bees' was REALLY good.
