Glad to have found you all.

I actually grew up in a very small white town. And am trying to shed the white wash and reclaim my asian-ness.

Oh...and someone told me that there was a difference between asian and azn. WTF? I've not heard of it. Can someone please explain it?

And, anyone game for teaching me Korean? Or know of any good resources?

Damn, now that I think of it that would be good to put on a nintendo DS. They have my chinese coach and my japanese coach coming out later this month

I'm 26. But i guess since I work at a college I'm more open minded to stuff like that.

Also I like shortening things out of laziness as well.

Hi!

I was born in Korea but grew up in the States. I seriously thought that I was "a little white girl" because that was pretty much everyone I knew. Occasionally I get some fiction books from the library about Korea/Koreans and stuff. Once I got this book called Somebody's Daughter by Marie Myung-Ok Lee. It's about a girl who was adopted to the States and she wants to find out about herself and her birthmother. It's pretty good. There are Korean words scattered throughout the book too.

yeah i think i'm still growing out of that phase. sad that its taking so long. i cant believe how ingrained it is. im still dealing with internalized racism. it sucks. i cant go anywhere without being in awe of seeing other asians. hahah. I'll have to check out the book. :)thanks

Yeah. I understand seeing other Asians and being like, "WHOA! AWESOME!" I'm like that still.

This past weekend I went to a Japanese festival with my family (who are all as white as can be. ♥) and as we were walking there, I kept getting these staring looks. And I normally wouldn't notice but it happened EVERY single time we passed people. So that sorta irritated me. Later, my little stepbrother and I were sitting on some stairs waiting for the rest of the family to meet up with us. Some kids who had parents working booths, were messing around and just being cute little kids. This one woman came flying up and demanded of me, "ARE THOSE YOUR KIDS?!" I was in shock cause they were at least 8 years old and I'm only 20. Then as she went to yell at them, I realized I was the only Asian in the close vicinity so she just assumed the kids were mine. That irritated me too.
