Japan - How he became a hikikomori

Apr 24, 2011 22:19

I've never read a fic that explores what caused Japan to become a hikikomori for 200 years, but I think it'd make an intriguing character study. Hikikomori usually arise from people snapping under social pressure, so did something similar happen to Japan? Did he push himself too far to be the perfect nation/son who always follows orders and never complains or shows emotion? Did the prospect of radical change frighten him into trying to ensure that he'd never change as much as others around him have? One doesn't just suddenly hole oneself up in their home for 200 years without reason, after all.

I'd like this to be a serious but not UBER-dark piece, and for any mentioned people/nations around Japan to be fairly IC or well-intentioned. They can be a bit overbearing and unaware of just how internally troubled Japan is; just...don't make them rapists or sociopaths, please.

Bonus: Japan's friendship with Netherlands is included, possibly with an explanation of why Netherlands is the only nation allowed to visit Japan during his hikikomori period.
