nice arguments for biotech in the bikepirates community. its refreshing to hear someone defend sciences/technology from those who protest it while enjoying the benefits. although, i would've dropped on that sort of kid the argument that medical sciences are responsible for expanding a woman's right to choose.
meh, what pisses me off beyond belief is people who constantly assume biotech is this monster industry that's trying to own your genome and take over the world. ignoring the fact that if there wasn't biotech, we'd all die of influenza at age 26. there'd be no pasturization, rampant disease and just general... suckyness
( ... )
The problem is that people tend to umbrella general problems. Yes, biotech is used to generate weapons or foods without regards to health, but there aren't any industries that do not generate negative things as well as good. The negativities of biotech are miniscule in comparison to positives. Discussing all the benefits of biotech could be an encyclopedia length discourse unto itself

sorry for the random add... never done that before, actually.
i saw you in wustl & thought you seem pretty cool, for lack of ahm... more cliche words. :-P did you start in january or are you starting in september? freshman or transfer? yeah...
I'm coming in with basically a semester of credits from the University of Pennsylvania, but I'm on a 4-year track, ie class of 2009 not 2008, attending frosh orientation.
basically second-semester freshman. I would have pulled for transfer if Penn hadn't told me "oh, by the way, your financial aid (full scholarship, all grants) goes bye bye this summer and we're charging you $20,000 for your summer semester."
plus, it's an easier transition, I'm basically a year ahead in terms of school but financially (was on full grants at penn) and age-wise (I turned 17 a week after drop/add ended this fall) I'm in the same spot as 90% of the freshman vs. 1% of the transfers.
welcome to washU (i think?)! hopefully you'll love it as much as I already do.
i was accepted in december ed and i think i saw your posts in wustl then too, but too many of the posts in washu2009 made me gag so i refrained from joining wustl and being harassed by the pre-freshman who already have too much class spirit. :heh:
anyway, thanks for the add back. i was gonna im you 'cause you seem cool, no else is online, and i'm up waiting to see if my friend got into ucsb... but i guess you're asleep w/ everyone else who values... you know being healthy and not sleep depreived. :-P haha... anyway, have a good Wednesday.
btw... i think your nickname made me click first, too. jews who make fun of themselves, well... it just seems to show some kinda quality. what exactly, i'm not sure... hmm.. yeah, can't you tell i'm jewish? haha...
