“Minnie!” A slightly older Jonghyun yelled playfully, passing the ball back and forth between the two. They were both currently sitting in the front yard, playing with a simple ball, rolling it across the grass. Their parents were sitting on the porch, watching with smiles as they got along swimmingly.
“Hey, Jong-Jong!” The brunette looked over and saw the adults standing. His mom explained, “We’re going to go inside real quick. Keep an eye on Taemin.” The boy nodded and smiled as the ball hit his stomach.
“Minnie! Catch!” Jonghyun tossed the ball over to the honey-colored haired boy. Unfortunately, the younger boy wasn’t paying attention and when the ball was thrown, and the object hit him directly in the face. It shocked him and Jonghun, as well.
The tears welled up and the boy started to quietly cried. Jonghyun was up on his feet before he could even think. He rushed over and brought the boy into his arms, knowing that it was better to calm him down early to avoid a breakdown.
“Taeminnie,” Jonghyun said softly. He rubbed the soft hair, running his fingers through the honey tresses and succeeding in calming him down, but not before being hit once in the chest.
“Taemin!” Jonghyun saw his neighbors running to them. He backed off and let the overprotective mother take the nine year old into her arms. He himself backed off to his own parents, waving goodbye before walking into his house.
He was herded into the living room by his parents. “Jonghyun, we are so proud of you.” The boy tilted his head in question. “You handled that situation very well.”
“So? It wasn’t a big deal.” Jonghyun said honestly, not understanding why they were making this so special. “I was just being nice to him.”
His parents simply smiled at his response.
