October in Ann Arbor

...is rainy and cold, as usual. Apparently it's snowed in Madison, and places in Michigan, and also Munich. (Dresden too, but that ruins the alliteration.) I saw a picture of the Zugspitze south of Munich (it's the highest mountain in Germany) and it was so covered in snow. Not that that's so crazy on a mountain. I think a lot of people feel like Freiburg was just a dream.

It's so hard to really believe that places you used to be keep on going essentially the same as before, even after you're gone and so separate from them. At the same time, though, I have this idea that if I really thought about Freiburg and tried to remember everything about it, it would feel about as real as life in Ann Arbor. But the energy that would go into that...would it be worth it? There's the chance that once I'd reminded myself of the reality of it, I'd start seeing too much of the positive qualities and would reminisce to a point where I wouldn't want the present. Even though I don't think there's really anything wrong with the present (besides the whole looming blank future thing). But I don't want to risk the always-wanting-what-you-don't-have thing right now ( ... )
