Bones

A very sad thing has happened. One of the old trombones was killed this weekend in a car accident. His name was Bill Hivner and he was one of those guys that seemed tough, but everyone knew had a big heart. I'm not really sure of the details, but it's a very sad thing. Also, my former section leader Keith Blair has been battling a disease (I ( Read more... )

I can't really afford it either, but I think I may try to go... especially because the thing for Keith and the thing for Bill are within a few hours of each other, and sort of in the same neck of the woods. I don't know if there is an easy way to carpool since I'm all the way up in Binghamton, but I'm game to try if you are! Looks like I'll be seeing at least a few good, old friends this weekend, but it's a shame we have to visit under such crappy circumstances.

I definitely miss Bill. Quite honestly, he scared me freshman year... but his sense of humor, his kindness, and his big-brotherly demeanor really got me attached to him. Whenever I think about him playing drill sergeant or dancing "Blazing Saddles" style, I smile. He was such a big part of my life and my undergraduate coming of age... I'm sure he was for you, too.

I miss you, Ashley... talk to you soon, I hope! :)

Do you take the turnpike at all? I'm not sure what I need right now, but I am missing something, so maybe it's seeing the bones. I miss you too Sarah Walker, you were always (and still are) my band sista! <--Oh man that came off so sorority, I just meant it as you were someone I could always turn to. So thank you for that!

I was driving home last night from class and the local radio station, 98 rock plays Mandatory Metallica. Well, No Leaf Clover came on and I remembered it was Bill's design and idea to use that on the field, Doc just made it into a reality. One of those memories that will stay with me. Muah!!

Ashley,
Hey. I'm very sorry to hear about the former band member. :-( Times like these def make you realize what you have. So your gushy entry as you say was totally understandable!
Glad you had a nice weekend. Hang in there.

Trish

It's so hard to describe to people what it was like in band. I miss it a lot. I haven't talked to K in a long time either. I heard he took a job, but that was a couple YEARS ago. Time flies I guess. Ahh towel rack. That was such a funny story. And God bless Bill and his scrunchie. May you always find a scrunchie... when you're puking and breaking towel racks. I just remember him yelling a lot and me laughing a lot because of it. Thanks for the comment Heidi. I probably won't be able to make it out there, but tell everyone hello, because I sure do miss you and all the bones!
