Painting wood floors

I am painting the stained wood floor of a small room. I want that "country"/shabby chic look that I keep seeing in magazines, almost whitewashed looking, not the high-gloss look I keep finding on my google searches. What kind of paint do I use? Do I need to sand the whole thing? I don't care if it wears well, it's a VERY low traffic room, and will
