I would like to start deocrating our guest room. Here is a quilt I will be using. It is a very meaningful piece, so I guess it will have to serve as the inspiration piece. I'm not sure what color to paint the walls. Maybe a robbin's egg blue? If so, what color valance or curtains? I was thinking probably white. Any thoughts or advice? I don ( Read more... )

My opinion: the predominant color when I look at that is pink, which is warm. I think putting blue on the walls will compete. Yellow, OTOH, is bright and sunny without being too "pastel-rainbow-y" and would complement the pink in the quilt nicely. White trim and window treatments against a soft yellow looks fresh, summery, and lovely in a bedroom.

Good point! I guess I originally wanted to stay away from yellow, since my son's room is yellow. But I suppose if it works, then it doesn't matter. I do love that color on walls, so cheery. That is the first color my husband came up with too to go with the quilt. I have taken some very pretty close-ups of flowers recently. Do you think they would go well blown up and in frames against a yellow wall. Let me guess... in white frames? :-) Thanks, I almost made a big mistake and would be regretting it probably.

I love the quilt.

I think Big Bold Flowers could be very nice. I agree with the white frames.

Some flowers with a circular pattern (like a daisy or even a rose) or a star shape over the head of the bed would reflect the pattern of the quilt.

I should also post some photos of the furniture. It is a hand me down set (antique) and in a medium wood. Hope it will all go together as I don't have much of a choice. Will photograph and post soon.

OK, here are the pieces of furniture I have to work with. There is a matching headboard as well, but didn't want to waste too much space here. Any suggestions for accessories? How would you classify this furniture. Should I stay with accessories from the period, or could I be more modern? Help, I am clueless!

OMG, I think we have this same set passed down from my husband's grandparents!

I think the suggestion above, a pale yellow with white trim would really make the star quilt pop. I also think pic #3 would look amazing above the bed.

i think the furniture is 1930's moderne - really beautiful quality :D

i can imagine a sort of romantic, dusty 1930's feel - maybe a little Walton's Mountain (remember that series?).

a friend of mine who had that kind of furniture also had some 1930's style pink flamingo decorative items, florida tropical leaf print fabrics, bamboo side tables, 30's tropical floral curtains, etc.

i would almost be tempted to give the quilt a tea-stain to antique and tone down the colors, but you probably wouldn't want to alter it.

your flower photos are really spectacular, btw :D

uum...dont know if it would go with the furniture, but... orisnori July 7 2006, 02:03:47 UTC
I personally think the quilt looks great, and, furniture aside, I was thinking alternating two close blues on the wall in a verticle tripe arount 4 inches thick. that also would make the painting job MUCH bigger, however.
