Point of time in the series from which the characer is taken: He's first seen shortly after Mello's "accident".
Sexual Orientation: Straight, but you never know what could happen.
Personality/Canon facts: There are a few things that set Matt apart from other characters: cigarettes, video games, and stripes. Not too much is known about his past except that Matt also grew up at Wammy's House with Mello and Near. Matt is a relatively relaxed and laid back guy, but still gets the job done and knows how to take work seriously.
Anything else important about the character?: Matt partnered up with Mello towards the end of the series, and is always seen with a handheld video game and a cigarette.

I was certain that our correct stop was the one about ten miles back, but Mello insisted I was crazy. Excuse me for having a good sense of direction, even if I always have my nose buried in a video game. That doesn't mean I'm not paying attention. Either way, this is the last stop, so there's no choice but to get off here. What a stressful situation, but at least I have enough batteries and cigarettes to last me a while. And what the hell is up with the parrot over there?

*~Character Relationships~*
Canon
Mello: A year ago when Mello and Matt both arrived at Last Stop Gakuen, things were quite heated. Of course, nothing goes without changing for long. Although it has been a rather strange roller coaster ride, there is still no one that Matt trusts more. Maybe. Although it may cross Matt's mind once or twice, he really is overall very content with his and Mello's partnership/friendship. Things are pretty much the same: Matt lights up, Mello groans about hating the smoke. Just like things are supposed to be.
Near: Matt is not a huge fan of Near at all. He finds Near terribly bothersome, and every since he moved out of Cottage Nine, has been quite content with his absence. Of course anyone is refreshing after they've been gone for a while. He does at least think that since Near is so interested in toys and the like that maybe he can talk him into a round of Mario Kart.
B: Not a whole things in this world really scare the crap out of Matt, but one of the things that does is B. As much as he cannot stand B, Matt is terrified of getting in his way, just in case he decides on something creepy. One thing is certain that if you see B, Matt is probably heading in the opposite direction. Or at least really wanting to.
Non-Canon
Ema: Matt has quite mixed feelings towards Ema. On one hand, she is an awesome person to talk to about pretty much anything, while on the other, she drives him up the wall and they have almost nothing in common.
Ema and Matt bumped into each other in the library, and have been pretty good friends ever since. Matt admires her spunk, and develops a slight crush on her because of her demanding attitude, good looks, and her passion for science that rivals his passion for video games and technology.
Johnny: It took a second to get by the serial killer aspect, but once he held a conversation with him, Matt concluded that Johnny was a pretty cool guy. He liked stargazing. Couldn't be that insane. Matt is thoroughly intrigued with Johnny, but perfectly content with keeping his distance.
Schuldig: Schuldig is someone Matt has had maybe two or three conversations with, and is quite happy to leave it at that. He is not all too fond of Schuldig. Not fond at all.
Miriallia: Matt has maybe bumped into Miriallia once or twice. He doesn't know too much about her, and is curious as to where and when she is from. The advanced technology, you see.
Karin: In the few conversations Matt has had with Karin, he can determine little more than that she is certainly interesting. Although he really isn't much of a reader himself, he was in the library when he bumped into her during the time where one's thoughts could be heard out loud. He definitely wouldn't object to learning more about her, especially the ninja stuff.
