Suggestions, please

I'm flying across the country and back this weekend, and need book suggestions. Ideally I'm looking for nonfiction (but not too heavy), though fiction recs are also welcome, and something available in paperback so it doesn't take up too much room (or cost too much). Please help!

Have you read Steve Martin's newer one? The Pleasure of My Company? I liked it very much. Something a little trashier (but not actually trashy at all) -A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray - a supernatural Victorian boarding school story. It's cute.

As for nonfiction, this cracked me up.

I just read A Great and Terrible Beauty! I am seriously considering the sequel, despite my utter lack of income, just because it was so engrossing.

Um, yeah, despite having forked over 1st month, security deposit and realtor's fee on a NYC apartment JUST TODAY, there is a distinct possibility I'll be getting the sequel tonight on the way home.

Have you read Everything and More by David Foster Wallace? It's about mathematical and philosophical work on infinity -- it's quite good, even if it doesn't quite get into some more contemporary issues...

You've probably left already, but here are some non-fiction recs for when you return ( ... )

Oh, plus, now could be a good time to finish the Animorphs series or brush up on your Baby-sitters Club! *g* And as for fiction, have you read Carolyn Parkhurst's The Dogs of Babel or Mark Haddon's The Curious Incident of the Dog in Night-Time or Yann Martel's Life of Pi? And when are we going to start that book club we've been talking about?
