Will someone tell me how to make my journal friends only with a friends only post and all that crap?  I really don't have time to firgure it out right now.  Thanks, guys (and galls)!

try the FAQ... you have to do some such nonsense at the admin console... I would find it for you but I'm just getting off. As for the banner... that's just a pretty picture that says "friends only" on it.
