Random story: I dated this non-balding guy one time whose dad held the Guinness World Record for Longest Time Spent in a Cave (463 days). I guess it was part of some Russian psychological experiment. He ended going a little bonkers and was never able to integrate back into the "real world." He eventually left his family and moved out to a farm in the High Desert and is still living there alone, 30 years later, last I heard.

That is so freaking rad. You may not know this and I dont think I have it in my lj list: but I am completely fascinated with caving. Especially stories of people who got/get lost in caves or spend long periods of time in them. I am terrified (okay, maybe thats a little strong) of caves...but find them fascinating to read about. Thank you muchly for sharing that story! Do you know anything about the guys thoughts or experience involving the cave?

Try Googling "Milutin Veljkovic." Maybe add "cave" to the search. A few things pop up. I'll e-mail Stevan (my ex) and ask him if he has any good info or links on it and let you know in a bit. (Stevan cloisters himself in this weird Zen monastery in upstate New York and doesn't get to the computer very often. Hahaha.)

So Stevan says that his dad is kind of a lonely old dude who LOVES getting attention and that you should e-mail him and ask him about his caving days. mvsibbin@verizon.net. You could say you know someone who knows his son, or say you read about him on the internet, or say you have a poster of him hanging in your bathroom. Haha, whatever you want.. just passing the info along. :)
