Reading in 2012...anyone on Goodreads here?

Jan 15, 2012 18:01

One resolution among the many i ahve made in 2012, is to read more - since the number of books i read in 2011 was appallingly low, and , for the first time in my life, i was guilty of leaving books (even those which i was enjoying) half-finished... which is quite unforgivable. therefore, i am going to try to ensure this doesn't happen this year, ( Read more... )

I'm going to be a flailing fan here and recommend some Stephen King. However, only if the genres suits you; I don't want to give you nightmares D: That said, his books are beyond fantastic. They'll suck you in like no others. If your not into blood-and-gore horror, try some of his thrillers thrillers, like 11.22.63. His work is phenomenal.

Also, the canonical Sherlock Holmes series. You'll get them all in good quality on Google Books. They really are timeless classics!

Best of luck with the challenge! <33

I've honestly never not loved a book of his; I just find him so unbelievably fantastic! But each to their own; and I do get where you're coming from with the swearing, it's just that as an avid swearer myself, I find his cursing pretty natural, and also hilarious X'DDD For me, it's Stephen King's characterisation and attention to detail that make him such a wonderful and compelling writer. I'm not ashamed to admit that I've cried at the end of a few of his books solely because I'll miss the characters; for me, he makes them feel real. I can understand why others wouldn't be a fan, though. I'm just a pretty obsessed one XDDD;

I love Sherlock Holmes! I'm re-reading them at the moment and found this gorgeous hardback copy of the Hound of the Baskervilles for only €7 the other day *_* Must start a collection.

"it's Stephen King's characterisation and attention to detail that make him such a wonderful and compelling writer" - i agree, coz this is what i thought about Dreamcatcher - that the characterization is really good.

Both Song of Ice and FIre and Genji are SO LONG, they're like... 10 books put together instead of 6, LOL... so it's ok if it takes us time to finish them!
Yeah you're right about that - one needs to be in the mood to get 'into' these books...

Oh! tell me if it's good! and ... is it too long? *headdesks* i have a LOT of big books to read, sigh... :D
