What does asLJ need?

Oct 06, 2009 22:47

I'm preparing a 0.5.2-alpha release that fixes the issue where userpics don't appear at the proper size in the userpic menu and adds support for four additional LJ-type sites (Asks, BootieJournal, Ivanovo, and OpenWeblog). Are there any other issues that should be fixed in this maintenance release ( Read more... )

I LOVE all the updates. It's almost the perfect client.

The only things I can think might be a nice addition would be some quick buttons for text formatting (links, italics, bolds, etc). Also- and I don't know if this would be too hard to implement due to all the different LJ clone sites this client connects to- would be be possible to put a quick link for linking other journals? The only way I can think to add something like this is with a drop-down menu kind of thing that, when an option is selected, would drop the text into the entry form. For instance, it would have as well as and clicking would drop that exact text into the entry, where you would fill in the user's name. (I think DW just has a simple command but I don't use DW much to know for sure.)

I think some other clients will let you choose from the whole list of your friends/communities/feeds and just plop Naeko in, if that's the user you selected but, again, I don't know how that would work with so many clone sites out there ( ... )

Thanks for your suggestions and for telling others about asLJ. 0.5.2 will have bold, italic, underline, user (, which works on many other sites), community (, which works on many other sites), and cut tags, all via menu items in the "Format" menu. Would it be useful to have corresponding toolbar buttons? (For my personal use, I find my asLJ toolbar to be too crowded to want anything else in it.)
I'll look into providing a way to choose from a list of friends, etc., for 0.6.

I think putting formatting/journal linking buttons at the bottom of the update window would be an alternative to cramming them in the top. If not that, I wouldn't mind a floating window option with all those that could be moved around/closed if necessary. I don't use those options all the time and being able to close a separate window when I don't need it would be nifty.

Oh, I thought of something else. Would it be possible to make a shortcut to get the preview window open? I use it a lot and prefer to use the keyboard to using the mouse.

The first part, placement of buttons for formatting, I'll have to look into some more, so it might not make it until 0.6.

The second, a shortcut for preview, is supposed to already exist, though it does seem to be missing in the 0.5.1 release. It should have been and will be ⎇⌘V (cmd-opt-V).

Thanks for your suggestions. As in my reply above, 0.5.2 will have bold, italic, underline, user, community, and cut tags, all via menu items in the "Format" menu, which means that bold, italic, and underline will respond to the expected shortcut keys. Would it be useful to have shortcut keys for the other tags? If so, do you have suggestions as to what key combinations?

Woohoo! A new Mac client! With other LJ-like systems support! <3. Been meaning to hack away at XJournal's code since it's open source and add Dreamwidth support, but I never got around to it.

Mmm, I'd personally love to be able to customize the key stroke to post so it's the same as Mail.app (command+shift+D, which XJournal uses too). It would also be great if asLJ could remember the crosspost choices I pick. Probably minor, now that I've realized that Dreamwidth will crosspost for me, even if I post via a client.

Also, so far so good on Snow Leopard (10.6.2, anyhow). :)

I'd like to add hotkey customization, but I don't yet have a way to do it. "Preset" crossposting, where you turn it on and choose which accounts in the preferences and then can just click crosspost and have it go without asking which accounts, is in the works (actually, it's about 95% of the way there and has been for a while, but that last 5% has me stuck at the moment).

1 and 2 will be in 0.6. As to 4, in 0.6, the tags and moods lists will be resizable and will initially be set to 10 lines (instead of the current 5 lines).

As to 3, I'm not entirely sure what you mean for docking it versus free-floating--could you give me a bit more description as to how you'd like/expect it to work?
