About the forthcoming Mac App Store...

It sounds like Apple has decide to have a Mac App Store, starting sometime in the next 3 months or so. Unfortunately, it looks like I can't even begin to get real information about what it would take to get asLJ into the app store unless I pay to join the Mac Developer Program. Given that, I'm curious what you all think about whether or not the ( Read more... )

I voted for the third option mainly because I'd hate to see you pay to join the Mac Developer Program at this time. But if it does become in the Mac App Store eventually, I wouldn't mind paying for it. :)

(Though I am still in the PC-to-Mac "transition" phase, strangely, so I don't use THAT many apps on my Mac to begin with right now... I need to start using yours to post on LJ again!)

It's not a huge amount of money and there might well be other benefits to joining.

As to the transition, what's holding you back? The only times I've had to use a PC lately were when I was in someone else's house and didn't bring a laptop with me or when I needed to deal with a Microsoft Office document that wouldn't properly open in the Mac version.

I find myself jumping around on different computers depending on where I'm studying. If I packed my Macbook with me, I'm all set. But if I need to crop/resize/edit images at ALL, I have to resort to my desktop. :/ Weird, I know. I'm not sure how to use Paintbrush exactly, but I'm very familiar with MS Paint.

Kelvin's scanner is hooked to the desktop, so when I'm scanning my silly comics, I need to jump over there, too.

And I was recently downloading some stuff to an SD card to use on my Wii.. unfortunately, the program isn't Mac-compatible.

But trust me, I loooove using my iPod Touch and my Macbook for everything that I can do / am familiar with. There are more accessible PCs around me in general, though.

Actually, just noticed something that's been bothering me. (I wonder if you know the answer to it.. I'm not putting the right terms in Google, haha.)

When searching through PDFs (Command + F), the search field isn't... too helpful. For instance, if I put in "0.5", it will pull up/highlight ALL terms with a 0 or with a 5. Is there a way around this?

The following is said with no knowledge of the mac app store, but I would assume that not much will change out there. How many developers who have their own brand and such would change their whole design to put their products up only through this new store? I figure that the way I get apps won't be affected.
