Appearance: Trapped in the body of a grade-school child, Ai retained her strawberry-blond hair and blue eyes. Her hair is cut short, just a little bit beneath her ears and her bangs are a bit of a mess. Whenever she is staying at Dr. Agasa's home she can usually be found in her lab coat when she's busy working on an antidote for herself and Conan, but otherwise she had adapted well enough to wearing children's clothing. Although she avoids the more childish styles she still dresses to a point where she is comfortable and yet doesn't attract attention upon herself. When it comes down to genetics, while she is half-Japanese, she had taken on to look more like her mother who is English.
Psychology: Ai is jaded, pessimistic and all around not-trusting of so many people. Having worked for the organization ever since they could find use for her it's any wonder that she was even able to lapse into society again, especially as a child, upon her escaping them. The murder of her sister had been a significant event in her life and was what led her to seeking out Shinichi in the first place. She'll come off as snobbish and even being something a jerk when first meeting her. Just because she's stuck being as child, it doesn't mean that she can't be herself when around those who know of her condition. A twenty-some-odd year old stuck in the body of a seven year old? Not the easiest transition to adjust to.
Regarded as the motherly-figure of the Detective Boys, she is often trying to keep them in-line or at the very least from getting into too much trouble. On more than one occasion she has regarded them as being too "childish" at times and yet she has found herself becoming protective of them. This new life of hers, while strange, is something she has found herself growing fond of. It is noticeable that she has grown close to Ayumi to where she allows her to address her as "Ai-chan". And in one case where the group, Dr. Agasa and some others were about to be murdered on the spot by a recently revealed killer, Ai took it upon herself to stand between the killer and Ayumi to protect her from being shot. Whether she'll admit to it or not, Ai would protect these new friends of hers which is why she is so determined not to be caught by the Organization. if found out, she would be killed as well as those now close to her. Having already lost her entire family, Dr. Agasa, Ayumi, Conan, Genta and Mitsuhiko are all the family she has now.
It can be noted though that she finds herself warming up a little to Ran as well. The girlfriend of Shinichi Kudo had protected her when Vermouth found her out, shielding her body with her own to keep the Organization member from shooting the girl on the spot. While she distanced herself from Ran at first, Ai is slowly reminded of her own sister, Akemi, little by little whenever she is around Ran.
Other Skills/Abilities: Shiho was used to work on creating new poisons for the Organization to use, so it can be assumed that she is highly knowledgeable in chemistry as well as human biology. Not to mention she is rather skilled with a gun whenever the circumstances call for it. But a notable ability is being able to "sense" when an Organization member is around her. As she has described it, she can "feel" their cold stares upon her whenever they are nearby. As the series goes on this ability starts to weaken some but still, it is worth noting.
Other Weaknesses: More than anything she is worried about being caught and her new friends being killed. It is her paranoia of being found and killed by the Organization that can throw her off her track. Not to mention being stuck in the body of a child has limited her resources that cannot be retrieved by the Professor, as well as having to force herself to act like a child around most grown ups. It's rather annoying to her.
History: Born to an English mother and Japanese father, both of whom were involved with the Organization, it was no surprise that the youngest of two became involved with them as well. Her father, Miyano Atsuhi, was once a well-respected scientist in his field before he started taking on experiments and projects at the time he joined the Organization. Not only had he been caste out from the prestigious scientific circles, he was even labeled as a mad scientist. As for her mother, Elena, while she was not as well known as her husband, she was still a genius herself with something of a twisted streak. She had earned the nickname of “Hell’s Angel” within the Organization.
Not long after Shiho was born (assuming one or two years after at best), Shiho and Akemi’s parents met their end in a laboratory accident. At least, that is what the records within the Organization claim to have happened. The truth is unknown but due to Elena having left behind multiple cassette tapes with recorded messages to Shiho, it was more than likely that someone within the Organization had murdered the pair.
With her parents gone, the Organization had made preparations for and sent Shiho to America to study where she lived there for the majority of her life. Both herself and Akemi were later taken in by the Organization and given their respective work. While Akemi was much lower in the chain of command, Shiho soon found herself to be one of the top chemists working on their payroll and given the codename of "Sherry", further following in the trend of members receiving aliases that were based off of different alcoholic beverages. She was most useful when it came to the development of drugs and poisons, although there was more emphasis on the production of poisons. It had been forced upon her to continue the work her parents had started, the drug that would kill whoever consumed it instantly without leaving any trace within the victim's body after passing - thus the creation of APTX-4869.
In the rare cases that the drug had reverted the test subject to younger/child forms, all notes in regards to it were kept hidden from the Organization. So when Gin and Vodka forced Shinichi Kudo to take the APTX-4869 they were unaware that the poison did not kill the high school detective. Shiho had questions of her own for the boy though so it was her that went and altered her file that organization on him declaring him to be dead. It was soon after that Shiho discovered that her sister had been killed by the Syndicate. When she questioned this and demanded to know why, she received no answers. No longer having any family left Shiho refused to continue working on the drug. When it became apparent that they were going to kill her she took it upon herself to take her own life first. With the poison she had created, she took it when she was locked up in one of their facilities. Shiho turned out to be one of the few to have the age-reversal affect occur. Because this it allowed her the ability to sneak out through the ventilation system and escape the Organization before they could even fathom catching her.
Alone, stuck in the body of a child and on the run, Shiho could think of only one person to turn to and that was Shinichi Kudo. But before she could find him Shiho collapsed in front of Dr. Agasa's house who just so happened to live next door to Shinichi. It was he who took her in and cared for her as she recovered. And it was Dr. Agasa who was responsible for the new name for her, "Haibara Ai", when she enrolled into the same elementary school as Conan. While staying with the Professor he allowed her full use of his equipment and lab to search for a cure for both herself and Shinichi, now going by the name of Conan Edogawa. When she revealed to him as to who she really was Ai had given Conan the false impression of being there to get him, not mention him assuming that Dr. Agasa had been killed - but of course that couldn't be further from the truth. It was at the end of a Closed-Room Case did Ai reveal to Conan a side of her that is hardly ever seen. Breaking down into tears she begs of him as to why he couldn't save her sister what with all of his intelligence and skills. She had seen him in the picture included with the newspaper article standing over Akemi's dead body and had ever since wanted to know the answer. Of course Conan had no idea that they were related and was completely dumbstruck by this news.
In time Ai was soon brought into the Detective Boys (Shounen Tantei Dan) group as their fifth member. And while it takes a while, Ai ends up growing rather fond of them, even though she doesn't show it very well. Still jaded by her past, it takes time for Ai to learn to trust others. From there she continues to live with Dr. Agasa while attending elementary school. When she isn't studying and working on an antidote for both herself and Conan, she is with Ayumi, Conan and the rest, mostly working to solve cases and getting into the usual trouble.
As for the poison, APTX-4869, there has been progress over the series. On a few occasions Conan has taken it and reverted back to being Shinichi Kudo, but the effects were only temporary. There have also been cases when a certain alcohol, White Spirit, that seems to have the same temporary reverting factor as the antidote-to-be. Ai's body returned back to normal and while she managed to escape after finding some old janitor uniform to throw on, it was Gin who found her on the roof top. It came as no surprise when the Organization member shot her. Repeatedly. The only reason she managed to escape with her life was because Conan managed to arrive in time and knock Gin out with an anesthetic needle so that she could climb back down the chimney into the building.
On several occasions she had warned Conan not to get too close to the situation. While she can understand and relate to his predicament, the fact remains that she understands the Organization a lot better than he does. If Gin or any of the others ever found them out, they would be killed as well as their loved ones. Most notable was when Vermouth had discovered that Sherry was still alive. When an FBI agent known as Jodie tried to protect Ai (who was actually at the time of Conan in disguise), Ai had followed the cars with a tracer and the use of Conan's glasses. It was there that Vermouth had taken control of the situation and attempted to kill the girl. Had it not been for Ran and Vermouth's weak spot for the teenage girl, Ai would have certainly been killed that night.
After that night she had been approached by Jodie from the FBI and offered the chance to get away from the Organization by joining the witness protection program. She declined, though, explaining to her that trying to hide would only make things worse, especially if she were to be found out again. It would be this never ending cycle that she did not want to deal with. Instead, she chose to stop running and would do the best that she could.
While Vermouth has yet to divulge her identity to Gin and the others, the fact remains that Vermouth has a particular hatred towards her and the constant fear of being exposed remains. She continues to try and avoid winding up in the spotlight. She still somehow ends up getting involved in cases but only because she happens to be around Conan at those times and as everyone knows, Conan is a murder magnet. At most the group ends up in the company of the police who have, by now, gotten so used to their presence that at times they have been consulted on a case. Or at least Detectives Sato and Takagi have warmed up to their company, while Inspectors Megure and Shiratori continue to be somewhat skeptical.
The only times she has trouble keeping a low profile is when she happens to be with Conan when Kaito Kid announces his next ploy to steal. During the case of Kaitou Kid and the Kirin's Horn, the Shonen Tantei Dan were jumped by the news media and taken to where the robbery was going to take place. At first Ai hid in the back of the group with her hood pulled over her head, later on she was seen wearing a baseball cap to hide her hair style and remained huddled in the sports jacket she was given.
It isn’t until the Red, White, Yellow, and the Detective Boys Case do things become even harder for Ai. Her ability to sense members from the Organization kick in when one of the suspects there, Okiya, is proven not guilty of the arson charge and somehow gains Conan’s trust. Flat out refusing to trust this man she nearly has a panic attack when Conan allows him to stay in Shinichi (his) house, which is right next door to Agasa and Ai.
Periodically she runs into this man and does what she can to avoid him whenever possible. It doesn’t help matters that Okiya has become friends with Agasa, often times coming over to cook or to help the Professor out. Her ability to sense the organization continues to waver around this man making it impossible for her to trust him, despite the fact he has yet to show any sign of ill-will to her or anyone else.
Unknown to her he continues to watch and observe, although his intentions are unclear. Until she finds out though she continues to be paranoid despite the assurances of others. Even now she still fears for her friends, more so than ever, after a kidnapping occurred in Agasa’s own home where Ayumi was taken instead of Ai, although it had nothing to do with the Black Organization.

Reality Description: Her Reality is modern day Tokyo, Japan, (or more specifically, Beika) a thriving city filled with life. One of the most over-populated cities in the world, there is always something going on there. Despite the good people that live there, murder and crime is no stranger to Tokyo. Every day there is a new case or three for the police department to solve. Which means Conan Edogawa, once known as Shinichi Kudo, has plenty to do while on the hunt for the syndicate. However, when they're not involving themselves in "grown-up matters", Conan and Ai attend elementary school as to avoid suspicion. It is at Dr. Agasa's laboratory, next door to the Kudo house, that all work regarding the antidote and research, is done as to avoid being caught. And beneath the display of the city there is a constant clash of powerful organizations, unknown by so many, and known by a select few. Even with the police in charge they do not compare to the FBI and CIA that have started showing involvement in Tokyo because of the Black Organization.
Not much is known about the Black Organization, with the exception it has ties to members ranging from politicians to celebrities. Their more notable dealings are in the illegal factor, such as arm smuggling and robbery. They work in the shadows and eliminate anyone who gets in their way. Members who find themselves wanting to leave the syndicate cannot leave it alive.
Their most recent project involved the creation of the poison, APTX-4869. Developed by Sherry, it is a poison that once administered to the victim, it damages the cells of the human body and ends up killing them. As a side-effect no such traces of the poison remains in the blood-stream - it was to be the perfect killing method. However, upon testing there have been a few results were the cells of the human body regress and shrink the subject back down to the body they had as a six/seven year old child. Currently the two known cases of such are Shinichi Kudo, now known as Conan Edogawa, and Shiho Miyano, going by the name of Ai Haibara.
