"Titus Peake"

Anyone know if the minor character Titus Peake was intended as a nod to the Gormenghast trilogy? (Character Titus Groan, author Mervyn Peake...)

That's a good question, actually - I had a similar thought, but I don't know that George ever said anything to that effect. It certainly looks that way, though...

(Also, heee, another Gormenghast fan. ^^)

matrixrefugee on an RP account...

Mmm! That's pretty close for it to just be coincidence. Also, Mervyn Peake has a grandson named Titus.

Also, yay! Another Gormenghast fan!

Yes, it is. There several tips of the hat to other authors - there is House Jordayne of the Tor, and another one that is a nod to Tad Williams that I can never remember.

Quite likely so, yes. GRRM has said he's thrown in a number of name drops of this kind. (Marillion being perhaps the most obvious. :D)
