Do children need a father figure in their life?

How should the 21st century family be defined?

Do you believe that a family should be the traditional Mother and Father with children?

I think that not having a father figure -- or any abnormal family, just creates different kinds of people. It is like a different culture.

Since when was difference bad?

According to society, I guess since always.

I don't think children need a father figure :) But I think that whether or not children have an actual father, they would probably, most likely, have a figure similar to that in their life that they look up to :)

I don't think the 21st century family is "defined," that's the cool part! Everyone is so different and lives in different environments so we get all different types of people :)

I think a family should just be whoever supports and accepts you for who you are no matter what and you accept them back. It may be the traditional mother and father with children for some people, but for others it may just be a group of friends or anything really :)

my girlfriend's mother and father never married. In fact, she lives with her mother and grandmother.

I think it adds a perspective, but if the parent/guardian is level-headed and open-minded enough, I think a child can function with just the one.
