You and your 'Fursona' (if you've got one)

This is more "Shared Experience" than anything else, but here goes:

Each time I've broken back into the fandom, I've been perplexed by the idea of keeping a Fursona to get badges for and other similar ego-trip details. My attempts at having something akin to a furry avatar include:
  • One Blue Dragon-Snake (who was the 'duchess' of a persecuted and ( Read more... )

Well, coming into the fandom, there was no obvious choice of a fursona for me. I even thought I'd probably end up changing fursonas, perhaps several times, sooner or later. However, the fursona I chose, a gryphon variant that is an apparent hybrid of white owl and black panther, has worked for me, and I've seen no reason to change it ( ... )

That is really interesting, as I had no trouble choosing a fursona. It was quite natural for me to choose a Doberman (In this case a Doberman puppy). I've had the fursona "Dobie" since I joined the fandom 8 years ago.

I share many of the same personality traits as Dobermans, and I love the breed. I've also grown up with Dobermans, as my mother has had at least one in the house from the time I was 10 years old.

Well, I've always been a cat of some kind or another, right up till December last year, and then my long-time avatar Kymbalee Highwater - an anthro torbie, mostly black and brown - decided she didn't want to play no more and vanished. So I hang up my blue sparkly cat collar and hang around the fandoms for a bit, and sure enough, the replacement comes in. But it isn't a cat, it's a self-insert from the Biker Mice From Mars fandom - Excelsior the Martian Cave Mouse, all knives and fury and parkour and epilepsy and bitterness at not being able to ride a motorbike. She even demanded that she be named Excelsior.
So Excelsior it's been all year. Playing her in an RP has helped, I guess, but I'm playing fourteen other characters in the same RP and I don't identify the same way with all of them.

When I first started, I was your generic fox (oooh, creative lol), but that was really only because I had two characters that I drew at the time. After a few months, I kind of just abandoned her as a "fursona," and just turned her into a regular old character, since I didn't do anything with her but draw smut.

That was about five or six years ago, and up until late last year, early this year, I managed to get around without one. Then, out of nowhere, people started bugging me about not having a fursona for apparently no reason. I joked around for about a week about being a fairy shrimp, and finally just drew an albino flying fox, and labeled it as "me," just to get people off my back. I haven't drawn him since lol

I happened upon somebody's personal page on kitsune, wherein he claimed to be a four-tailed fox. Being a bit on the humble side, I wanted to be a bit less than that, so I picked three tails. I built my fursona on FurryMUCK, thinking I could change if I felt a better connection to any other species... but Alfador grew to be such a large part of me that I have stayed as him, and he as me. 'S now my middle name.

So yeah, I just picked what seemed right at the time, and haven't had any problems.
