I have an 8 year old just like you and I hope it makes you feel better to know that I explain everything to them and am as understanding as I can be. I let Lee dress in 'boy' clothes and underwear and have short hair. I just go with it and whatever choices Lee makes as an adult, I'll be there and be supportive every step of the way. :)

If she cannot cherish you for whatever you need to be mayhaps it's better. Being in a relationship where you and they are not on good terms is not wise.
As for confusion? Welcome to the human condition. I suspect our "aspie blessing" lends us a bit more interactive access to that which "normals" have so supressed that it merely destroys them
