For those who don't know, my family and I are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  The Church is a big part of my identity, of who I am.  And, having been raised in Utah, most of my friends were also members of the Church.  Of all the friends I have had over the years, the one who was dearest to me I met when we were both 4 ( Read more... )

The tricky thing is that the real issue wasn't something she did, it wasn't her wrongdoing. It was my handling of a decision she made. Yeah, I didn't agree with the decision, but when I asked her yesterday to help me understand why she made that decision and, perhaps erroneously, mentioned that she didn't look as happy now as I remember her being, she got offended and told me not to contact her again. I made a very careful and concerted effort NOT to make it sound like her actions were wrong. All I wanted was to understand the reason behind the lifestyle choice that pulled us apart.

I do agree with the fact that we often miss out on "common social knowledge", though I suspect that I would be in that boat even if I had the opportunities most NTs get. I am more severely impaired that way than most aspies I know.
