Oh! Oh! I SO want to try it! We don't have arcades around here, but if we did, I would go, even if it meant my plump body would be jumping up and down in front of a lot of infants.
And Punk? who knows? When I was young in a small town, I gaped at every slightly "alternative" looking person I saw and it was (among other things) a means of bonding with others; now people are so jaded there is no banding together around freakish, different style. Now it is so commercial. Long has there been MTV. Or whatever.

Hey -- come out to Toronto and we can play doubles DDR! I rocked out to 'We Will Rock You,' 'Little Bitch' by The Specials and a load of songs I don't know. We'd have a grand ol' time! I might buy the home version...

I went to a suburban arcade so I didn't have to jiggle in front of the cool kids in KoreaTown, and I actually was so focused on trying to do the steps that I forgot I was out in public jiggling and sweating and generally being goofy!

Oddly it brought out my competitive nature, I kept plugging money into the machine because I wanted to get a better score.

Regarding punk, it's supposed to be DIY and not produced in a sweat shop. Geez. You absolutely right, m'dear, tv has changed personal style. How to be original in the information age when imitation is considered flattery.
