Post-mortem

Today was the day of the post-mortem. I didn't find it as bad as last time, and I think that perhaps a lot of the probelms I had with the last one were due to the whole weirdness of the room, the outfits, the fridges, the detachment of the workers. I'm glad it went well. Was the one who fainted okay afterward? what is it that makes people faint at postmortems? I've only seen them on film but in person it must be very different.

The Art in Medicine department sounds fascinating.

I have missed you!

Yes, the girl who fainted was OK, apart from being a bit embarrassed. I think that it was a combination of the heat (yes, I know that it should be cold, but there are so many layers of clothing and masks that it is actually quite hot), the smell and the fact that she hadn't eaten anything.
I have only seen the Von Hagens plastinated corpse autopsy on film. I think in person it is the sounds and smells that make it very hard to deal with, and the proximity to the open eyes and lolling mouth. It does seem kind of brutal, even though it isn't.
I am just grateful for the opportunity to do this, since not many people do get to do it, and it is such a better way to learn than using a textbook.
I have missed you too! I am moping around tonight, being miserable.
